WOODLOT

Woodlot brings awareness to the importance of openspace and play in the urban fabric by taking us through a narrative of fascination, exploration/play, rest, and discovery. Balloons create a floating tree canopy above, while tree stumps and turf surface below allow for seating. Together these elements create the experience of being in a forest setting and give users a space of rest in the hustle of Mass Ave. The bottom side of the cloud consists of rice filled balloons which invite users to engage by hitting them, evoking play through tactile and audio senses. This engagement then loops us in to explore the rest of the space while also giving us a chance to understand the tectonic build of the Woodlot. Upon finding a space to rest, as users look up, they discover an oculus with a view to the sky and above tree canopy which can only be seen from inside.
