HARVARD YARD CHILD CARE CENTER
The HYCCC play yard re-imagines play spaces and offers children an arena for open-ended free play. Integrating playful topography, vertical climbing elements and a shifting pallet of ground-plane materials, the design encourages children to explore and engage with the landscape. The overall design sequences a series of captivating play experiences into landscape rooms to breakdown the scale of this long, narrow site. A stage, outdoor classroom and grove frame a series of custom play equipment and natural play elements. Moving away from the traditional playground kit the design embeds play elements and opportunities- including active, fantasy, and creative and constructive play- within the landscape itself.
