A COURTYARD POOL AND GARDEN

This residence and small courtyard is located in the heart of Cambridge. Existing mature beech trees were employed to help separate the yard into two landscape “rooms,” providing the owners with multiple options for how to use their space. The kitchen flows out onto a wood pool deck large enough for gathering and entertaining. The wood decking folds down into a seating element with storage for pool skimmers, pool toys, and yard tools. At the lower level, plantings create a sense of a garden oasis within the city, giving the homeowners a place to entertain and to find space for respite and relaxation. At the lower level, the large, mature trees separate a more private dining space off of the living room and a small lawn and garden open to the pool area. The project also includes reconfiguring and planting a rear alley space that serves as a buffer to the busy street and neighbors as well as a path to bike storage, and a new front yard entry and planting.
